Modern (Dried) Wedding Florals

Tuesday 10 September, 2024

A DAY OF INSPIRATIONAL TUITION WITH FOUR EXCEPTIONAL FLORISTS

Pearl Watt - Millefleur; Cissy Bullock - Wildstems; Hannah Walker - Bride and Bloom; Claire Sutton - Fig and Fern

This September, I’m thrilled to be bringing together four florists who have all blazed bright trails with their wedding work, to share their wealth of knowledge, experience and artistry with a lucky handful of students.

This will be a one-off chance to work alongside a floral dream team, and live a day in their shoes.

The brief, simply put, is to build a wedding: a ceremony and reception, from start to finish, against the late-summer landscape of Ravenshill farm. Tuition will be given on mechanics, design techniques, styling and all the tricks in a florist’s toolkit.

Materials, props and palette will be carefully curated to create a blended aesthetic, and allow us to explore translatable design – that is, compositions that can be broken down and repurposed in different tableaux.

There will also be a focus on dried florals: partly to advocate for the freedoms they offer, partly to recognise their importance in making floristry a robust and sustainable craft for the future.

But there will be fresh flowers too. We want to celebrate a floristry that can think beyond dried and fresh as alternatives, opposites, and show how they can be combined to elevate each other’s potential.

As always with events at Ravenshill, a professional photographer will be on hand to document the day and gather a gallery of images for attendees to use in their portfolios.

Details & booking

Two separate workshop groups will run simultaneously over the course of the day:

CEREMONY GROUP

With Hannah Walker (Bride and Bloom) and Claire Sutton (Fig and Fern)

RECEPTION GROUP

If you wish to attend you must choose which group you would like to join. There will, however, be plenty of opportunity for both groups to observe each other’s work, and the final session of the day will be given over to deconstructing and reimagining elements from both groups into new compositions (see below).
